In a rapidly changing world, it’s difficult to not have concerns for their future survival. From our Founder, Melanie Royals
A life filled with art and the business of craft led me here. My desire for visual beauty, illuminated by the pure North African light, kept me coming back for many years. A deep sense of connection to this very foreign and yet very familiar place made want me to stay forever.
Morocco is not a perfect place. There are many economic and educational challenges for the majority of people who were born here. Adjusting and adapting to the language and culture is an ongoing challenge for those of us who chose to call this country home-or did it chose us?
With all those challenges, I’ve never felt more welcomed in a country, more simultaneously relaxed and energized, or more “myself” while living here! Wandering the artisan souks, soaking up the sights, sounds, and smells, and discovering what these artisans can produce with the most basic of tools in the tightest of spaces fills me with immense respect and reverence.
Forever curious, I love learning new things about the history and techniques of craft in Morocco and meeting authentic, heart-driven artisans in the places they create. I’m passionate about bringing others into this beautiful world I now call home.
